one day symposium was organized on 16th march 2019

Students of Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses of Zoology, Botany and Biotechnology of Pandu College, Gauhati college and Assam down town University, participated in the symposium. Fish Blood cells

Blood  of various fishes collected from Uzanbazar ghat (local fish market), Guwahati and observed under Foldscope.  Local fishes like Goroi, Kuhi also showed bigger nucleated blood cells like Cuchia.  

Few updates on work done

First phase of Foldscope utility in Biology done in Five schools, last school attended was Bonda Anchalik High School on 18th Sept. Second round of Foldscope Utilization would be conducted after completion of 2nd Terminal exam in these schools. Also, on 21st Sept Project fellow gave oral presentation on genotoxic effect of residual pesticides observed…

Effect of benzene on mitosis in onion root tips

severe damage has been caused to nucleus and swelling of cells has been observed in the second image when onion root tips were treated with benzene. photo has been captured by using Nokia 7 plus mobile handset, purchased for the project.

Tried to capture mitosis, most of the cells were found to be in telophase and late anaphase. More experiments are still in process to get better resolution photos for capturing metaphase.

Captured rat skin section by Foldscope

I was really very anxious to see my histology slides after attending the Foldscope workshop organised in ICGEB by DBT on 16/04/2018. I am happy as I could focus the section with Foldscope and mobile, which I couldn’t do in the workshop. pressing the sample stage folds in mobile phone view, section get nicely focused….
