Pollen grains from an unknown Hibiscus sp. The grains were collected by gently dabbing a tape slide against the anthers. Also included are some photos of the flower and plant the pollen was collected from.
Nice. I like the pointy edges. Have you compared this with other flowers. It would be fun to make a library of images for common flowers.. or uncommon flowers for that matter.
Now I am wondering; can a pollen always tell exactly what plant it comes from?
I remember my professor in plant biology saying something about his friend who’s a pollen specialist and could tell the plant by looking at pollen grains. We just got some tulips, I think I know what my next specimen will be. 🙂
