Onion cells

One of the first things I attempted to view was a piece of onion skin.

The fold in the skin here actually gives some depth to the image. Natural light through a window seemed to work best as well, especially if not directly facing the window.

I will have to try cheek cells next. Will be a good opportunity for my science students to compare animal and plant cells.

    Beautiful wrinkles on the surface of the cells.

    Since you brought up illumination – you might enjoy these tricks using piece of paper as a diffuser. Whenever you are looking for a topic – do a quick search on the site; and you might find lots of ideas for your students.
