Examining Fabric

I wanted to view a man-made object with the Foldscope, so I cut out a piece of a dyed sock made of woven fabric and mounted it on a slide. I used my iPhone SE to photograph the sample. I was fascinated by how clear the individual threads appeared under a microscope since they look so vibrant and solid to the human eye.

Beautiful post @Psalmpc. It’s interesting also because Leeuwenhoek was a drapist and his desire to watch fabric at small scale lead to an entire field of discoveries, including the whole field of microbiology.

    Keep exploring.

Gorgeous picture. It would be great to look at different fabric types under a foldscope

I love this! I wonder if wool would look different than cotton–also synthetics might look really different.
