    Those are indeed “dead cells” – and a fantastic example of looking closely. Wonderful dark field image as well.

    I often wonder what keeps the “dead cells” all together. They do seem to clump up. Also, they scatter a lot of light – and hence appear white. And your microscopic observation does show that they scatter light in interesting ways. Dead skin is what makes most of the “dust” in a normal house hold – since we are all shedding skin, all the time 🙂
