Human cheek cells have a lining of flat and polygonal cells with irregular boundaries, which are arranged edge to edge. As a result, they seem to form a delicate sheet or lining of cells. There is a presence of a small, densely staining structure in the cell nuclei of females, consisting of a condensed, inactive X chromosome. It is regarded as diagnostic of genetic femaleness.
Wonderful post. What a beautiful insight – although I have seen 1000’s of cheek cells – never knew about this difference.
