Barkatullah University, Bhopal has also received the Foldscope project entitled “Assessment of Ecosystem Health of rivers using microscopic organisms as Bio-indicators” and in that course the team of this project visited the North East Region for conducting the workshop.
Principal Investigator Prof. Anil Prakash, Head, Department of Microbiology, Co-Principal Investigator Dr Vipin Vyas and Junior Research Fellow Ms Parul Gurjar visited Pandit Deeendayal Upadhyay Adarsh Mahavidyalaya, Behali, Biswanath, Assam. The North-East region collaborator Dr Dilip Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, PDUAM is working on the “Analysis of Dust Particles created at different phases of construction of Four-lane Highway with the help of Foldscope involving College Students “.The Field work has been conducted on the Brahmaputra River where water samples have been collected. The collected samples were analyzed on the next day.
Prof. Debojit Baruah, Principal, PDUAM appreciated the Major twinning part of the Foldscope Project and admired DBT for giving North East the privilege to organize such workshop. Later Dr. Vipin Vyas apprised the students about the assessment of aquatic ecosystem by using the microorganism and the role of Foldscope in the magnification of them.
In the technical session Ms. Parul Gurjar delivered lecture through PowerPoint presentation by covering all the technical aspects of the project. Students got enthusiased with the working of Foldscope and were eager to handle the Foldscope instrument.
During the demonstration session, the assembling and the handling of the Foldscope instrument were demonstrated to the students. The students then themselves viewed the instrument.
In this hands-on workshop students get informed about the microscopic world and how Foldscope, a handy instrument can ease the study of micro-world with so low cost.
