After working with the group of undergraduate, masters, and graduate students from the University of Antananarivo, we traveled together to a local high school in Kelilalina.
At Kelilalina we introduced high school seniors to the foldscopes, assembled them together, and went out in search of interesting samples.
Students were very enthusiastic, and picked up the techniques needed to use a foldscope very quickly. The group of students from the University of Antananarivo were instrumental in making sure that each high schooler was able to create and view slides.
We were also pleasantly surprised to find that many students had cell phones with cameras, and that some even had smartphones. This allowed us to take pictures to share.
Students were also instructed to record the findings in their notebooks, and to create drawings of each of the samples they viewed. Images of the students drawings will be uploaded in another post.
We took group photos of the high schoolers and university students at the end of the day.
