 Cypris
 
 are ostracods (a type of crustacean) and related to mussels and shrimp. They are small, about 1/2 – 2mm long, with a hard outer shell. In freshwater ponds they are usually found scuttling around among the debris at the shallow edges. They swim smoothly with appendages extended from between the two halves of their carapace (shell). When disturbed, they withdraw their limbs into their shell and clamp the halves tightly together.

 Megalopa larva has a large un-segmented cephalothorax with all 13 pairs of appendages like those of a crab, abdomen is straight and in line with cephalothorax, it is like the abdomen of prawn with 6 pairs of well formed pleopods, In crabs the nauplius is passed in the egg, it hatches as a zoaea which by moulting forms the megalopa stage, the megalopa by moulting forms the adult.

 We got the hermit crab while collecting shell and it was dead so we decided to dissect and observe the body parts under foldscope. This is some part from abdominal region where we observed this beautiful arrangement of arteries caring red blood and below we observed a patch of blue blood also

 Moths have very long proboscis, or tongues, which they use to suck nectar or other fluids. These proboscis are very tightly coiled when not in use, like a hosepipe. When in use, the proboscis are uncoiled to their full length and in some species, that length is remarkably long.
