Shein Ei Cho

On a quest to find nice cellular structures with everyday vegetables. I use potato, orange peel, green onion, and shallot here. If anyone knows any vegetable whose cells that are clearly visible under foldscope and any interesting structure, please let me know!

Study of everyday vegetables under foldscope

Caught in Yangon, Myanmar


 I saw tiny hairs on mosquitoes under foldscope.


 It is amazing how these tiny “hairs”, setae are covering different parts of the body. Insects generally use setae (sing: seta) to stick to surfaces and for movement. Different kinds of mosquitoes have different lengths and sizes of setae and in different part of their bodies. Mosquito larvae also have setae. Here, mosquitoes might use setae in different parts of the body to perform different tasks.

Hairs on Mosquitoes?

Introducing a new science curriculum to teachers at
 <a href="http://www.mymeproject.org/">
 myME Myanmar Mobile Education Project
 </a>
 in Shwe Pyi Thar township in Yangon, Myanmar, including a foldscope workshop.
 
 
 MyME provides non-formal education to children who are working for their livelihood. We are working on a new science education curriculum to teach children basic science through hands-on activities.
