I received my Foldscope in the mail today. I had difficulties assembling it at first, but with the help of the video instructions, it was a lot easier.I found that mounting my phone on a phone holder made it easier to use the Foldscope. This also increased the quality of the image. I can’t wait for what’s in store with this innovative microscope!

Introduction

Now that I’ve got my Foldscope, I am dying to see my first water bear. I collected a piece of moss from my backyard and brought it inside using a paper bindle (used in my Forensics class as a form of evidence collection). I mounted a piece of it onto a glass slide, but unfortunately I haven’t found a water bear yet! Are there any tips for finding water bears?

 Even though I didn’t find any water bears, I still had a blast looking at moss under the microscope.

In Search of Invincible Tardigrades

10 minutes ago I was playing a game on my phone as I laid in bed. I pulled up my covers and something small flew into the air and into my eye. I immediately panicked and shot up out of my bed and headed to the bathroom. I rinsed my eye with water using the shower head. I had no luck flushing it out. I looked in the mirror and saw the small thing on my eyeball. I fished it out with my fingers as slowly as I could. Once I retrieved it, I gathered my slides and mounted the sample. You would not believe what was in my eye —- it was a scab from my mosquito bite.


 Well, at least I think it is. That’s why I would really appreciate it if someone could help me confirm it!
