Today I ventured outside in search of organisms to look at with my foldscope. I desperately wanted to find a little critter. I crossed the bridge, headed towards Frick, and explored the slightly wooded area between the road and Frick. I turned over logs and leaves and dug around in the dirt, and I was transported back to my childhood - I had a large rock that I kept in our garden specifically so I could turn it over and see what was underneath it from time to time.
In my expedition, I found a few worms and large bugs, but then I caught this guy:
Above is a photo of its antennae. Its head wasn't really discernible, but I was able to clearly see its two antennae. I also photographed part of its body:
I don't quite know what's going on here or what information this photo can give me. Perhaps it can show us what the I wasn't able to ID the species but it looked more like an isopod than an insect.
I also collected this leaf and was able to capture a decent photo of it:
I conducted this project as part of Professor Pringle’s EEB321 class at Princeton University.
