My first post!
Found a dead butterfly in the backyard and let's explore! I clipped the wing a bit, mounted it onto slide and viewed it. I used Foldscope 2.0 and trading card as the slide. Love these cards we can actually exchange our findings with other fellow friends.
Butterfly wings are actually made of hardened protein called chitin, the same protein that make our fingernails and toenails. Each butterfly species has different shapes and patterns! How interesting.
The butterfly wing that I observed was a tawny coster, exotic that has colonised Malaysia habitat and is now considered widespread. This butterfly is so common here and easy to find.
