Students explored their playground area and discovered what different plants looked like under a microscope. Students worked with a partner to place a piece of the plant in the scope and then looked at the plant cells. Students took time to compare different color flowers as well as locating parts of plant on some of them.
Students discovered how using bigger leaves didn't require having a slide. Students were motivated to discover new things with their microscope. The point of the lesson was to open up discovery and how we can look at things closely to find similarities and differences.
I enjoyed watching students works together to come up with new things to look at under the microscope. I would have a handout next time with more guidance on what to look for and how to write it down and come up with another discovery that they could compare it to.
