As I sit at my desk thinking about what question to investigate, I noticed my hair protectant spray sitting on my shelf. This then begged the question: what does damaged hair look like? I realized this was something I wanted to discover under the foldscope. I took a strand of my hair and looked at it under the foldscope. Upon looking at it, I saw that the hair fibers split, constituting a split end (see image). In conclusion, damaged hair seemed to break the healthy protein “casing” in the hair strand, allowing the fibers to split. Looking forward, I would like to conduct some kind of experiment to see how hair protectant sprays prevent this from happening.
