I used the Foldscopes with my GEMS (Girls Engaging in Math & Science) Club. We went on a nature walks around our school and collected specimens to explore with the Foldscopes. After the first walk, I used the presentations slides to teach the girls how to use the Foldscopes. Then each girl chose two items from the nature walk to make dry mount on the trading cards. Then they viewed the slides using the Foldscopes and traded their cards around so that they could see all of the different items collected. Our pictures are a little blurry. My school doesn't have tablets or phones that we could use with the Foldscopes, just Chromebooks, so I just used my personal phone. Overall, the activity went well, and it was a good introduction to the Foldscopes, but I am going to have to work with them more myself to get better at focusing, making better cards/slides, and making adjustments to the Foldscope while it's coupled to my phone. It was definitely an activity where the students and I were learning together! The example pictures are of a rock, a flower petal, dirt/gravel, and a leaf.
