I got my hands on the most amazing instrument that is a microscope in a paper! - the Foldscope.. I joined the ‘exploring the microcosm’ class in LGP’26 with a thought that it would be kind of boring and would just learn theoretically.. but after 15mins of entering my class, our professor Ms. Anupma handed us the Foldscope 2.0!!

It is like a whole bulky microscope made into just a piece of paper. Initially, I couldn’t really get how to use it. But my professor Ms. Anupma guided me on how to use the Foldscope properly. I learned how to use the fine adjustments of the instrument to get the most amazing and mind blowing observations ..
The Foldscope is one of the instruments that attracts curiosity , once u start using it, u kinda get addicted to it cause u just wanna learn and explore more and more.

The sample that I took was the Fern Rhizome, which is a plant sample. When I initially looked and observed through the 50x and 140x lenses, I could majorly observe 3 different shapes of cells:-
1. The big reddish pigmented cells with linings
2. The smaller grouped light pink-ish and round
3. The dot-like magenta coloured

When I further tried the 340x lens, I could genuinely see the nucleus and fine linings of the cells.

In conclusion, I would say that it was a very fun, different exploration.. While u do it, please take proper samples and maintain the lighting also :)
