I live on the 27th floor of a building and have to use the lift to go back and forth throughout the day .Once, when both us (me and harsh) were together and were waiting for the lift to come, just out curiosity, we collected a dust like sample from a wall fan overhead and planned to observe it under the foldscope. It looked simple yet interesting. Following were our observations when we observed it:
Observation - The dust sample appeared to be normal gray coloured stuff with semi-rough texture at the macro level. It looked as if it was a part of an abandoned spider web. Question - Can it really be said that it originated from a spider web? Observation - At its micro level, the sample could be thought of being made up of 2 types of components: The linking part , which could probably be a part of a mesh structure helping in binding the other particles together. The scattered part , which was spread out throughout the sample just like the iron fillings, are scattered under the influence of a magnetic field. Question - Could the linking part be the cobweb of a spider? If yes, then, could the scattered part be thought of as the dirt that was caught in the web? Observation -The linking part appeared to be made up of threads which in many regions were translucent. At some regions, there were also some stiff, stick-like opaque threads present that defined the ends of the linking part. Question - Can this property of the inking part of being translucent and opaque indicate some special nature about it ? Can it be used as a proof to say that the linking part was indeed cobweb?
