Two photos of water were taken with a foldscope. The first photo is of tap water and the second one is water from an old dirty water bottle.
In the first photo, you can see many small particles. Maybe these could be dirt or mineral clumps in the water. They are mostly circular and they are pretty consistently placed throughout the water sample.
In the second photo, from the dirty water bottle, many more particles are seen than the first one. I'm not entirely sure what the dirt on the water bottle was, but it is interesting to see the difference between the two water samples. The original water bottle had a foggy hue on the glass and was probably around 3-4 weeks old.
The particles look pretty consistent between the two and both have these fiber/string like structures in them, which I found interesting. There seems to be a lot of variability in the objects in the water, with many shapes and sizes, more so in the second sample though. Both water samples seemed clear before observations were made. It makes me wonder what else might we find in the water we drink? In the future I’d like to compare filtered water to these samples and water from different areas that have different water filtration systems.
