The first thing I looked at with my FoldScope was a sample of yogurt that claimed to have active probiotics in it. I didn't expect to see bacteria because they're too small, but I thought this would be an interesting thing to look at, nonetheless. When I first looked at the sample, it appeared very cloudy and clumpy, similar to what yogurt looks like when it starts to visibly separate with time. I wasn't expecting this at all. It was also much more textured than I thought it would be, and of all the samples I looked at, it gave the clearest images.

After looking at something liquid, I wanted to see what a plant would look like under the FoldScope. I cut a thin slice of ficus (house plant) stem going vertically and put that in a slide. Under the FoldScope, the ficus looked very different from the yogurt. Instead of being clumpy and uneven, it had long, fibre-like structures running in the same direction. It looked much more organized and layered, which makes sense since plant tissue is structured for support. If I were to do this one again, I'd try to get a thinner piece of the plant because it was hard to get a clear image of this one.
