Students recently dove into the microscopic world as they learned how to use their new Foldscope 2.0 microscopes. To build background knowledge, students first watched an introductory video explaining what a Foldscope 2.0 is and how it works. This helped them understand how such a simple, paper-based tool can magnify tiny specimens and allow scientists to observe details not visible to the naked eye. After the video, I modeled how to properly hold, adjust, and focus the Foldscope 2.0, emphasizing patience and precision when trying to bring a specimen into view. Once students were ready, they began exploring a variety of premade slides, including insect legs and wings, parts of the stomach, plant leaves, and animal cells. As they worked, students practiced focusing techniques and shared their observations with one another. The room quickly filled with excitement as students successfully brought their specimens into focus, gaining confidence and curiosity as they explored the microscopic structures that make up living things.
