I wanted to explore some indigenous wisdom I had heard. Quechua textile women told me that just by feeling the fibers they can tell whether something is baby alpaca, adult alpaca, or synthetic. They say baby alpaca is really fine and adult is more course and synthetic is really course. So I thought, what if I can see this with the microscope? So I took pictures of a strand of each fiber and analyzed the photos. I compared the thickness and saw what the Quechua women can just feel with a touch of the fiber.
