This year, I was able to use foldscopes with my students to look at different types of pollen and spores, and it ended up being one of those activities they kept talking about long after class ended. They couldn't wait to explore more items with the foldscopes.

I noticed that there was a genuine sense of awe when they first got the samples into focus and realized they were looking at structures that they normally could not and it wasn't using a heavy metal microscope. In fact, many of them couldn't believe that something as simple as a paper microscope could reveal so much detail. Watching students compare what they saw, point out differences between samples, and excitedly call their classmates over to look made my heart warm.

The Foldscopes made microscopy feel approachable and hands-on for my students, and sparked the kind of curiosity every science teacher hopes to see. It was a great reminder that sometimes the simplest tools can create the most memorable learning moments.
