I was curious to see how many things I could find to look at under the Foldscope within my bedroom. Although it is somewhat gross, I did manage to collect a sample of dust to look at. I was able to see my own hair as well as smaller hairs from my cats. If you look closely at the small hairs, you can even see the difference between the black and white hair, which is what colours my cats are! There is also lots of dirt and food particles in the sample, although I can't exactly distinguish what is what.

This image I managed to get fascinated me the most. I picked some dry skin off my lips (which is called vermilion) to look at. This skin is made of stratified squamous epithelial cells, although the individual cells aren't really visible in this image. I originally thought the circular shapes around the edges of the skin might be bubbles made from saliva, but since the skin I used was very dry, I doubt that is the case. It is more likely that they are holes made when it was pulled off my lip, due to the skin being very dry and flaky. I noticed as well in this image that there is a somewhat reddish coloured substance around the outside edge of the skin, which I believe is blood from where it was still attached to my lip. Maybe next I'll compare different skin samples from different parts of the body!
