At Wow Science club, we begin with a problem statement, bring ideas from various fields and apply them to come up with a working solution. Today at Wow Science Club, we celebrated the beauty of micro cosmos and tried to address the problem health in our region in specific and global health in general. The theme for this year’s club is INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF LIGHT. The kids were amazed to see a piece of paper being folded into an optical device and at first could not believe that they could actually observe cells using it. The kids began with folding their own microscopes and preparing their own green leaf slides. It was really fun. For 90% class, observing a cell was a new experience. After figuring out why mosquitoes have hair on their legs, observing tiny pores on the body of insects, recognizing the face of some deadly pathogens on some readymade slides, it was time to test their own prepared slide. The stomata were visible as tiny dots. Towards the end, the slides were projected on the walls which amazed the kids the most. Till now we have amazed almost 200 kids with this fold scope activity through club activity and free workshops. A special thanks to all those who made it possible- our teachers, our parent organization “Edugenie” and especially Manu Prakash Labs for this splendid innovation.
