National Service Scheme ( NSS ) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. NSS Camp is a special kind of a weeklong camp which is usually organized by the regional NSS Centers once in a year. The camp is planned in such a way that the volunteers are given proper opportunity of developing initiatives for various social causes, fulfilling the motto of NSS, “Not me But you”.

A week-long NSS camp is being organized at GGDSD College, Chandigarh from 27 th Dec. 2018 – 2 nd Jan 2019. Theme of the on-going camp is Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as Swacchta pakhwada is celebrated from 15 th -31 st Dec. 2018. Around 110 NSS volunteers pursuing graduation in different educational streams and from urban and rural background have gathered here for one week for one cause — To serve the nation.

A talk/lecture was delivered on the 2 nd day of their camp on Swachta Abhiyan using Foldscope in the first session on 28th Dec. As these volunteers regularly take part in various government led community service activities and programs.

The sole aim of the talk is to provide information and awareness to young students about foldscope and its significance as a frugal tool for microscopic analysis. As each one of them can take this message to many young minds wherever they go for delivering community service.

In the second session, a Hands on Training Foldscope workshop was conducted for NSS volunteers.
