The skins of the blueberries were collected by finding two in a container, one molding and one plump and fresh. Using tweezers, a thin layer of the skin was pulled off of the flesh. Some flesh remained and the tweezers were used to pull off the chunky insides. The flat skin layer was then put onto the slide with a couple droplets of water. I observed both hoping for key distinctions between them. The fresh blueberry’s skin was much more vibrant and consistent with color as it is a bright magenta with hints of orange and deep purple in some spots. In contrast, the rotten one was less saturated with colors more brownish-red and fewer hints of purple. The grossest parts of the skins came up with very little pigment and streaks of orangish brown. I would love to do this for different types of fruit and observe how the colors and textures vary.
