My Foldscope Experience 01

Amidst the rigors of grad school, my foldscope has presented me with a channel to explore my penchant for the microscopic world (or at least as close to it as I can afford on the go). The images, albeit random snaps of mundane things, are super exciting when observed through the foldscope.

1

Exhibit 1: Dried leaf. What would have been a simple portend of the spring season to come has on the microscopic level proven one of the properties of light. The leaf isn’t actually opaque as you can see light passes through the meshed layers of the leaf’s tissue.

2

Exhibit 2: Ever notice how when you wipe a white board some particles of dried ink fall to the duster holder? Well this is what those particles look like. Those transparent “clouds” are air bubbles trapped by the tape i used to fix the particles on the slide.

This is definitely a hobby i wish to continue.

Thank you Manu Prakash!
