 This is a photo of a strand of my hair. To obtain this sample, I cut a segment of a strand of my hair, deliberately choosing a piece of hair that was thicker and felt smooth to the touch (rather than coarse). I sandwiched the piece of hair between a glass slide and cover glass for observation. After shining the light given in the Foldscope kit on the sample, I took this photo using the camera on my phone. We are able to see the well defined structure of the strand of hair and can conclude that the strand is indeed smooth, without any split ends or sections where the strand is weaker or thinner.
