These pictures are of a Fern Rhizome, or stem, sample provided on a preprepared slide. Rhizomes can grow underground for some Fern plants, though they are not considered roots.

The taking of these pictures was especially aided by magnetically attaching the flashlight to the Foldscope while taking the pictures with an iPhone. The zoom feature on the phone was also helpful as well, as seen in the third picture, to take more focused images.

The focus feature on the iPhone itself was much better for gaining clearer images than the focusing slide on the Foldscope itself once the sample was mostly in focus.
