Recently, I took this photo of the small petals of a dandelion. Dandelions can be found almost anywhere in North America, especially during the summer months. Being from the South, dandelions invaded my backyard and continued to reproduce all summer throughout my childhood. I would often pick copious amounts of dandelions and give them to my mother. Who knew that years later I would get to see the petals at a micro-level! I rarely see dandelions in California, so it was awesome to see one up-close and experience one of my childhood favorites again!
I found it fascinating to see the white petals and how they connect to the seed head. It could almost be confused with human hair to see how thin they were! I also looked at other seeds and petals, such as one from the blooming tree outside the STLC. Although the dandelion contains mostly monochromatic tones, I loved looking at the various colors in blooms through the Foldscope. I find that looking at nature up close makes it all the more beautiful and intriguing when seeing it from afar.
