A section of dandelion “parachute”/seed viewed under a foldscope. The sample was collected from a dandeliion in a grassy field in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The black lines shown are individual strands of the dandelion “parachute”.
The sample was placed upon a slide, over which a sticky transparent film-type cover slip was placed. The downside of using such a sticky film rather than a standard cover -slide was the presence of air bubbles, apparent in the image shown.
