This flower was found outside of SAPP Chemistry Building at Stanford University where hundreds of students enter to learn about the natural sciences every single day. The flower has been exposed to the elements for its entire life as well as being taken care of by groundskeepers of the university. When I picked this flower, Stanford, California was in the middle of its rainy season, meaning the flower had experienced a good amount of rain and winds and less sunshine than normal. To prep this slide, I added a few drops of water to keep the pedal moist. The pedal was also exposed to the elements, so it could possibly have other organisms existing on it at the time of making the slide.
