Description: It was very fascinating to see ant repellent under the foldscope. As per the research the approximate particle size of ant repellent is 10-20 microns

It is that time of year when insects make a place for themselves in the cozy corners of the house. Rain and humidity in the air offer the perfect environment for these creepy crawlies to breed and wander especially in our kitchen area where they find food.

Disadvantages of using ant repellent.

One chemical found in many ant repellent is DEET( N,N- diethyl -m- toulamide ) .A 2009 study found that DEET can interfere with the activity of enzymes that are vital for the nervous system to function properly. In the study, the researchers have found that DEET blocked the enzyme cholinesterase, which is essential for transmitting message from the brain to the muscles .The study, conducted by the institute of Development Research in France and published in the journal BMC Biology, found that the chemicals that interfere with the action of cholinesterase can cause excessive salivation and eye-watering in low doses, followed muscle spasms and ultimately death.

Natural ant repellent

  1. Cinnamon- is considered to be one of the best natural ant repellent. It yields positive affects in both repellency and insecticide activity because ants cannot withstand strong smell of the cinnamon.
  2. White Vinegar- is a common home remedy for getting rid of ants again because of its pungent smell.
  3. Borax – is a type of salt that is toxic for ants.
  4. Cucumber peels – ants hate the bitterness of these peels and they could keep them away from entering the house.
