The organisms seen here were found studying a sample of pond water. The sample was collected around 5:30 pm on 4/8/19 from the pond outside Baxter on Caltech’s campus. It was obtained via falcon tube.
Questions: How diverse is this sample? What kinds of bacteria can we find? From the images, there appears to be organisms of different sizes and shapes. We could use a higher-magnification microscope to look at them in more depth, and to identify them. Are these types of bacteria typical to all ponds? To get a better picture of all the bacteria in this particular pond, we could first study more samples. Then, we should compare this to other pond samples taken from a random set of ponds.
