Microorganisms in Throop Memorial Garden Turtle Pond Water
A photo of microorganisms observed in a droplet of water, water which was obtained via extraction from the turtle pond located in the Throop Memorial Garden at the California Institute of Technology, located in Pasadena, CA. The sample was obtained at an unknown time. The photo was taken at approximately 5:50 PM on April 10, 2019.
Concerning the domain to which the microorganisms in the photo belong, a photo with greater clarity is needed, in which case the microorganisms could be examined for the presence of a nucleus and organelles, features which Eukarya possess but Bacteria and Archaea lack.
In addition, after obtaining a photo of higher clarity, the density of these microorganisms could be determined by analysis of the magnification of the Foldscope in order to ascertain the area covered by the photo. Subsequently, utilizing the depth of the sample, the number of microorganisms in the photo could be counted and an order of magnitude estimate of the number of these microorganisms per unit volume in the turtle pond could be made.
