Attached is a photo of a pollen sample collected from a large yellow flower at the base of the turtle pond. The sample was obtained on Saturday, 5/5/2019 at 5pm when a piece of the stamen was broken off and the pollen was gently tapped onto the glass slide to collect pollen dust.
In the actual image, several molecules of elongated pollen are visible. A few questions arise from seeing the image:
How do different flowering seasons for different plants affect the shape of pollen? What characteristics are beneficial for the overall adhesiveness of pollen to insects such as bees?
The name of this flower is daylily, or Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus.
