a.
The third picture is a (somewhat blurry) image of
pollen under a Foldscope. Towards the center of the image, a possible plant cell can be seen. The second image is the flower where the pollen came from while the first picture is the tree where the pollen came from.
b. The sample was taken at 1:30 PM, May 7th, 2019, from the tree shown. The tree is located at Caltech’s campus, next to TechExpress.
c. To obtain the sample, I picked a low hanging flower from the tree and rubbed the stamen onto a microscope slide.
5. After some research, I found that the flower’s species is most likely M. citrina from the Melaleuca genus. I came to this conclusion after finding that citrina is a species which was transported from Austrailia (its origin) to other countries like the US. In addition, the leaves of the tree smell of citrus which is a trait unique to the citrina species.
