This is an image of a pollen sample that was collected from a flower outside of Avery house in Caltech. The sample was obtained on 5/7/2019 at about 4:00 pm. The sample was obtained by shaking a flower above the glass slide used until a good amount of pollen was in the center of the slide. One interesting question to consider about this image is if there is any significance to the ridges seen in the pollen grains. Does it provide any benefit, and is it unique to this species of flower? To answer this question we must first find out what species this flower belongs to and then collect samples from other species to see if those pollen grains also have the same ridges. #caltechbi1
