This pollen sample was taken from a yellow daylily just south of Turtle Pond on the Caltech campus (1200 E California Blvd, Pasadena, CA). As seen in the microscope picture, the grains are long and thin, somewhat like grains of rice, but with more pointed ends. The sample was taken at 3:00 pm, 5/2/19. The sample was obtained by scraping a small amount of pollen off of the anther and onto a glass slide. The sample was then secured with a taped-on cover slip. For part 5 of our assignment, I noticed that there appear to be grooves or ridges running along the length of the pollen but this is unclear. Higher magnification would likely help to discern the structure of the pollen.
