This slide was created at around 5:30 pm on May 8, 2019 near Braun Athletic Center on Caltech’s campus. The slide was created by smearing the pistil of the poppy on the prepared slide, which brings about experimental error as the pollen may not have smeared onto the slide but rather parts of the pistil of the flower.
Below is a self-proclaimed low-quality, out of focus image taken with the rear camera of the iPhone X of pollen of Eschscholzia californica (California poppy). I suspect the black clumps seen on the image are groups of pollen or pieces of the anther.
The
plant species is Eschscholzia californica.
A question that I have been wondering about this photo as well as my previous foldscope images is how the iPhone X dual camera affects the images taken by the foldscope. For my phone, the iPhone X, I feel it is significantly harder to get a quality photo compared to a different phone with only one rear camera. The dual lens camera is great for taking normal photos but creates challenges when trying to get a photo through only one magnetically coupled lens. #caltechbi1
