This pollen sample was collected on the Athenaeum driveway at 4:06 PM on 5/9/2019. The sample was collected by taking one of the flowers, removing the petals, and then rubbing the rest of the flower up against the slide. The slide cover was then placed over the pollen to prevent it from flying away. The first picture shows the original flower. The second photo shows the pollen that came out of the flower. In this photo unique things are seen, such as the partitioned structure of the sample. This comes from the characteristic cell walls that are sell in plants. Some questions I have about this sample collection is how rain that proceeded this sample collection affected the amount of pollen in the flower. I feel like this could be answered by taking samples of the pollen before and after the rain. Also, how would I identify that this pollen is from this flower instead of pollen from another flower that so happened to land on this flower? The only reasonable way I can think to solve this problem is to look at a lot more flowers of this species.
