Photo of pollen under foldscope. This photo was taken at 8:00 pm on Friday May 10th using a foldscope and phone camera, lit by a flashlight. The distinct yellow particles (mostly clustered so difficult to distinguish) are pollen. The pollen sample was collected from Rhododendron simsii earlier the same day (5 pm) near Avery House (Caltech Campus), and mounted on a foldscope sample slide. A photo of where the sample was obtained is shown below:

Rhododendron simsii, flower from which pollen was collected. Plant species : Rhododendron simsii
Magnification : 140x, pollen grain is approximately 0.007mm in diameter.
How can the pollen be seperated/isolated so the view of distinct particles are clearer? (Perhaps try using tweezers?) #caltechbi1
