This is pollen collected from a hibiscus flower outside of Page House at Caltech. I collected the sample on May 3rd at 2:00 PM by tapping the pollen into a piece of paper. Before putting the sample onto the Foldscope, I crushed the seeds a bit to release the pollen.
The photo through the Foldscope lens was taken using an iPhone. When I shined more light through the Foldscope, I saw that the pollen looked much more green. However, it was difficult to take a clear picture with more light, so I opted to take a darker, but more clear photo.
The scientific name for Hibiscus is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. Hibiscus are part of the mallow family Malvaceae.
