The sample was obtained from the lawn between Parson and Dabney at 13:11, May 16 . We picked up the flower from the grass and cut off a fragment to use as the sample. The species of the flower is Geranium wilfordii Maxim.
3: This is a picture of the magnified image seen from the foldscope of stamens of a purple flower. Semi-clear tubes and their tips can be observed. The sample was obtained from the lawn beside Millikan pond at 13:50, May 16 . We picked up the flower from the grass and cut off its stamens to use as the sample. The species of the flower is Jacaranda mimosifolia.
4: This is a picture of the magnified image seen from the foldscope of a seed of a lavender flower. Hair growing out of the seed can be observed. The sample was obtained from the lawn beside Millikan pond at 13:52, May 16 . We ripped a seed from the lavender plant to use as the sample. The species is Lavendula angustifolia.
5: This is a picture of the magnified image seen from the foldscope of a dead ant. The legs and the head can be observed. The sample was obtained from the rose garden beside Millikan pond at 13:54, May 16 . We killed the ant (by accident) and used it as a sample. The species is Pogonomyrmex badius.
6: This is a picture of the magnified image seen from the foldscope of a live ant. We are seeing the abdomen of the ant. The sample was obtained from the rose garden beside Millikan pond at 13:55, May 16 . We caught the ant alive and used it as a sample. The species is Pogonomyrmex badius.
When working on this assignment, I (Xiaoqi Catherine Long) collaborated with Happy Wenjun Chang and Erika Shuyue Yu. We collected the samples together but used separate foldscopes to take the pictures.
