This image shows a zoomed-in view of the petal of a white flower. It is fascinating how the picture appears shiny/silvery as if it was actually a photograph of a crystal. I would expect this photographic effect to be the result of transmission of light through dyes in the petal. It is interesting, still, because the petal itself was pure white, whereas this zoomed in view shows grey and silver in addition.
The sample was collected at 3:24 pm on 5/27/2019 at the California Institute of Technology, outside of Chandler Cafe (1300 San Pasqual St, Pasadena, CA 91106). It was taken via clipping from a flower (images below).
The petal piece was then mounted to a slide and photographed.
