This photo is a magnification of a petal from a purple flower. It is interesting how the dyes that color the flower appear in clumps in the photo with light white particles surrounding them. I would expect this to be a result of the distribution of pigmentation within the petal (if you look at the original sample below, some parts of the petal are white).
The sample was collected at 3:25 pm on 5/27/2019 at the California Institute of Technology, outside of Chandler Cafe (1300 San Pasqual St, Pasadena, CA 91106). It was taken via clipping from a flower (images below).
The petal piece was then mounted to a slide and photographed.
