Red roses grow in the planters outside of Avery outer courtyard, between Avery House and Annenberg Building at Caltech in Pasadena. Samples of these roses were taken on May 28th at around 3pm by removing wilted flowers. The stamen of these flowers were placed onto a foldscope slide to be examined.
The image taken through the foldscope can be seen on the right; the image depicts the main stem portion of the rose’s stamen. Because the sample was a wilted sample, the foldscope has less coloring than a typical live sample would.
