Here we can see some of the structures coming off the central carpel of the flower
Although this image is not completely clear, we can see how many of these stick like structures were coming off the central carpel.
Location: At the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, near Milikan library.
Time: 30th May, 2019, at 15:50.
How the sample was obtained: There are large jacaranda trees growing at Caltech. I picked up a flower that had fallen from it. In the centre of the flower, there was a stick which had a fluffy circle at the top of it. I put this on a sticky slide and looked at it.
Here is an image of how the sample was prepared on the left. I put the whole stick from the flower onto the slide. The images are taken from the circular bit on the right side of the stick.
Description of the magnified pictures: As we can see, the fluffy circle was in fact a bunching together of many smaller rods each with a yellow tip at the top. They all grew out from the central stick.
This photo was not taken by me but is of the tree from which I picked the flower. Here is the website from which I got it: https://caltech.typepad.com/caltech_as_it_happens/2013/06/flower-power-tour.html
