The image is a picture of a furry hairlike object found covering the end of a long stem. The purple hairs in turn have tiny extensions (the sharp pointy wedges coming off the central line). #caltechbi1
The sample was taken at approximate 3:30 pm on May 30, 2019 from this plant on the south side of the Caltech Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology. The sample was obtained by carefully extracting a single hair from one of the stems of this plant; special care was taken in removing the hair from the base, i.e. as close to the stem as possible. The sample was then placed on a sample slide to be viewed by the foldscope. #caltechbi1
